Landsat 8 (formally the Landsat Data Continuity Mission, LDCM) was launched on an Atlas-V rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California on February 11, 2013. Land surface temperature (LST) is an essential factor in many areas like global climate change studies, urban land use/land cover, geo-/biophysical and also a key input for climate models. In case of Landsat 8 TIRS we have two thermal bands (10 and 11). With the advent of satellite images and digital image processing software, now it is possible to calculate LST. As the latest launched satellite from the LANDSAT family, LANDSAT 8 has opened new possibilities for understanding the events on the Earth with remote sensing. I was recently asked by a user how to calculate the Land Surface Temperature (LST) from Landsat 8 imagery and decided to write an article on this topic. During estimation of LST we required OLI sensor Bands (2-5) for estimation of Land Surface Emissivity (LSE) through Fractional Vegetation Cover (FVC). LANDSAT-8, the latest satellite from Landsat series, launched on 11 February 2013, using LANDSAT-8 4. Land surface temperature is an important factor in many areas, such as global climate change, hydrological, geo-/biophysical, and urban land use/land cover. DERIVATION OF LAND SURFACE TEMPERATURE (LST) FROM LANDSAT 7 & 8 IMAGERIES AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH TWO VEGETATION INDICES (NDVI AND GNDVI) Richard J. U. This paper illustrates a proposed method for the retrieval of land surface temperature (LST) from the two thermal bands of the LANDSAT- 8 data. It can record the apparent temperature of the Earth’s surface by measuring the radiant energy exiting its surface. Landsat 8 is the most recently launched Landsat satellite and carries the Operational Land Imager … The data of Landsat 8 is The Land Surface Temperature (LST) is the radiative skin temperature of ground. Let’s start with the basics – What is LST? MATERIALS AND METHODS 4.1 Data Used Landsat 8 is one of the Landsat series of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). We prefer Split-Window algorithm to estimate Land surface temperature using moderate resolution Landsat 8 bands (30m). LANDSAT 8, the latest satellite from LANDSAT series, has given lot of possibilities to study the land … Land Surface Temperature (LST) can be calculated through a thermal infrared remote sensing data. I hope you will enjoy it. homogeneity of land surface cover and other factors of atmosphere.LST is the key factor for the calculation of highest and lowest temperature of a specific place.
